We thought that a great project for the Slice would be to embellish a tie for Father's Day. I didn't know how to make a tie, so I went and researched a bit, of course using Pinterest. I found this wonderful tutorial on The Purl Bee by Molly that pretty much lays everything out for you beautifully. The only thing we did different was add a little Slice love to the mix. Click here for the full tutorial: Molly's Sketchbook: Father's Day Tie.
To see how to add your own appliqué personal touch, read the instructions after the jump.
Okay, to add your own personal touch, follow Molly's instructions until you get down to the part that says "Adding the Front and Back Lining". Before you get to that part, you'll want to add your shape. What I did was to cut out all my images in paper before I cut them out in fabric to be sure that they were the right size. Iron your fusible web onto the fabric. Cut them out of fabric. Remove the paper backing from the fusible. Then fold the tie roughly into the shape it's going to go. Place the image down on the tie and iron. For this particular tie, I used the Happy Trails design card and cut the gun out at 3 1/2" and the stars at 1 1/2".
After you're done ironing, satin stitch around the shape. Follow the rest of Molly's instructions and you'll have the most wonderful tie for that special Dad in your life.
Very nice I would not mind having one of these.
