INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cut out 3 different sheets of felt at 8” x 16”
2. Cut out a background sky of blue with a width of 7.5”, green grass with a width of 7.5”. Place fusible web on the back of both. Cut a door portion out of the red house and place it wrong side to the base of the blue house. This is so that you can iron the house down, but the door part will stay unstuck. Iron all pieces down to the left side of the blue piece of felt.
3. Cut out your flowers, and iron each flower to it’s mirror image. These flowers will attach with a button, so sew a buttonhole to each of them. Iron the pot shape on to a piece of green 7.5” x 7.5” sized fabric. Embroider a running stitch for the stems. Sew a button at the top of the stem. Attach this green piece of fabric to the darker green felt fabric on the right side.
TIP: Other objects with mirror images will iron to themselves. These images are the car, truck, clock arrows & clock circle.
4. Cut out a 2” width road from black felt that winds around the dark green shape. Cut out a .5 inch strip of yellow flannel. Place fusible web on both of these. Iron the black road to the felt and iron segments of yellow to the road. If your felt starts to melt under the iron, place another piece of fabric over the top of it. Iron on the flowers.
5. Cut out three Carrots in orange with their corresponding mirror images. Do the same in green. Cut the tops off of the green and iron them to the tops of the orange Carrot. For stability, cut a small strip of cardboard and place in the middle of the carrots, then iron down the carrots to their mirror images.
6. Cut out a wavy piece of brown with a width of 7.5”. Cut out the same in yellow in reverse. Apply fusible web to them and place wrong sides together as shown.
7. Iron down the sky portion of the carrot page to the top of the green sheet. Before ironing down the brown part, cut three slits at the top so that the carrots can be inserted, but not so wide that the carrots slip through. Iron the brown, part (with it’s yellow backing) down to the green felt. The yellow backing makes it so that there is a pocket.
8. Iron the numbers to a 7” cotton white circle. Do not connect it to the felt yet. Cut out two blue arrow at 2“ and two yellow arrows at 2 1/2”.
9. Iron each arrow to it’s mirror image. Cut down the larger 2 1/2” arrow so that it’s a similar width to the blue arrow. Place grommets in the bottoms of each.
10. Cut out the felt circles. These do not need to have fusible web placed on them when you cut them out. Just spray the glass mat and place the felt directly to the mat. Iron your x’s and o’s to each circle.
is fused onto. They will not originally be in order. The left side of this image is the reverse page of the right side of this image.
FINISHING TOUCHESSew the ribbon on the inside center of the left and right sides.Embroider the grid lines for tic tac toe.Make a pocket for the x’s and o’s and place a shape on it.Place velcro on each butterfly.
Iron a crease in the door and add your own decorative touches to the scene.
For the clock hands, sew the hands, clock inner circles and a button to the white face of the clock being careful to only pull the thread through the grommets or else the hands won’t spin in a circle.
Insert your carrots.
Button on your flowers.
Motor your cards around the track.
12. Place the felt sheets on top of each other, hand stitch a running stitch down the center, fold and enjoy! The colors used don’t necessarily have to be the ones you use, they are there to help reference the art. Pick your own colors, use your own shapes, make this yours!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! This is definitely on my to-do list!
