Today is the first day of October and in my house, that means time to put up the Halloween decor! We already bought a giant skull for the front porch and it's time to make the house a little more spooky. Today's Make-It Monday will help do just that.
Find out how to make this banner, which uses the Slice Mystery Hollow card after the jump.
Check out all the cute Halloween fabric there is out there. I cut the word BEWARE out of black in the 4" size, my skull in 3 1/2" size and my bats in 2 and 2 1/2" size.
Next I cut out the cream colored portion of the banner in a variety of shapes to fit the letters.
Then I cut the background banners. I used my quilter's ruler and cut the dovetail portion at 60 degree angles. Be careful to cut them the right way or you'll get a point instead of a dovetail like I did in the top right picture.
Assemble and iron the letters onto your cream colored banners.
I cheated a little and hot glued a lot of things like the ribbons at the base and the ribbon around the circles of the skull. The only thing I didn't cheat on was stitching the top ribbon across the banner. I pinned it on so that it covered over the background banner AND the cream colored banner and then zig-zag stitched across the top.
I hope you enjoyed this banner demonstration. Get out there and use your Slice machine to decorate your spooky abode!
Halloween banners are such a huge part of the Halloween tradition. It's something you just don't miss out on or forget to put up. They are essential to the whole idea of Halloween. Great designs, I'd love to pattern some of mine from yours. Thanks for the update!

He drank out of the bass and dubstep cup and he’s poppin’ tunes bigger than Popeye’s guns! Nick’s ‘Like Boom’ EP is his most successful output to date. But wait for it; Nick’s got a new EP on the way which he said is; ‘…so close to being finished. I can’t wait to share this stuff with you guys!’. We can’t wait, either. Catch him now as the resident DJ on triple j’s Mix Up for the month of September showing us what music he loves most in 2012 (BASS!) – then lock in 20 October and join us.
