For this week's Make-It Monday, we are going to show you how to make this bag and appliqué a shape to the front of it. The cute monster shape is from one of our newest Slice cards, Monster!
To see how to make this bag, click on the below link.
1. First thing you do is mourn the loss of your favorite bag. Just kidding! I figured out what size it was. This particular bag is 15" x 16". I added an inch on the sides and bottoms and and 2 inches on the top for the hem. Then I measured the handles. Each handle finishes at about 27" x .75". Here are the final measurements:
Bag body: 16" x 18" (Cut 2)
Handles: 28" x 2.25" (Cut 2)
2. Cut out your shapes with your Slice machine. This particular shape comes from the Monster! card which will be available soon. Place them in the general area you want them to be on your bag and then iron in place.
3. Zig-zag around the shape in a neutral or similar color to the fabric. Zig-zagging helps the shape from fraying after it's been in the wash. Use a short width and distance setting. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to figure out the width and distance you prefer.
4. Placing right sides together, stitch the fron and the back of the bag together. Do not stitch at the top of the bag just yet. Cut the corners at a diagonal. Turn the top of the bag down a quarter of an inch and iron. Then turn the top down an extra inch and hem the top.
5. For the handles, turn in each of the long sides a quarter inch and iron. Then fold in half and iron. Turn the bottom edges of each handle in. Stitch down the length.
6. On the inside of the bag, place the handles where you would like them to be on the bag and stitch them in place a quarter inch from the top and an inch from the top. Reinforce stitches.
7. Sew some googly eyes on your monster. The design card has eyes in it's programing, but I thought the buttons looked fun.
8. Voila! Enjoy your new bag.
Love the bag--super cute and stylish. And, I've seen the bag in person. Perfect size tote too! What fun.

Just love The Slice. Showed it to all my Craft Club ladies. Just wish mine was still working! It just died on me! How can I fix it? I feel 'sliced up' about it. And I want to make this fun bag!!!
